Context

Humanity is currently facing the most severe food crisis since World War II, driven by the compounded impacts of international conflict, climate change, and diseases such as pandemics. Countries like South Korea, which rely heavily on imported agricultural products, are increasingly vulnerable to food shortages and disruptions in supply. To secure economic stability and national resilience, it is essential to maintain self-sufficiency and independence in food resources.

Even the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway — long regarded as one of the safest places on Earth — is now confronting the risk of flooding due to sea-level rise and climate impacts driven by global warming. As the long-term sustainability of existing seed vault systems becomes uncertain, new methods of storage are urgently needed.

Synopsis

The Lord saw how utterly wicked people on earth had become; every thought was only evil all the time. So God said, "I will destroy from the earth the people I have created. And with them, the animals, birds, and creeping things" — Genesis 6:5–7

노아의 방주 서사를 모티프로, **종자(grain)**를 미래 문명을 위한 "두 번째 생명 목록"으로 설정한 프로젝트. 청주 도심 저활용 부지를 대상으로, 저장고(vault) · 전시공간 · 교육공간이 결합된 복합 건축을 제안한다.

Role

디자이너 · 충북대학교 Architecture Design Studio 졸업작품 단독 수행

  • 리서치, 대상지 분석, 프로그램 설계, 도면·모델링 전 과정 단독 진행

Approach

  • 대상지 선정: 청주 도심의 저활용(underused) 부지를 종자 저장 + 시민 교육 기능으로 재생
  • 저장 로직: Svalbard 모델의 단일 집중형 저장소가 기후 재해에 취약함을 분석 → 분산·다층형 저장 시스템 제안
  • 공간 서사: 저장(지하) → 순환(중층) → 전시·학습(지상) → 경관(옥상 농경)의 수직 내러티브
  • 랜드스케이프 통합: 건축물 자체가 지형처럼 기능하여 도시·농업·자연의 경계를 흐리게
